IQ Test Challenge — What it is & How to Use

The IQ Test Challenge is a browser-based intelligence test that asks a set of 30 multiple-choice questions and produces a scaled score (maximum 160). It’s designed for casual self-assessment and friendly leaderboards — not as a clinical diagnostic tool.

How to use

  1. Pick a theme using the theme buttons (Blue / White / Red) — this only changes the visual style.
  2. Click Start to begin the 30-question session. Questions are delivered in a randomized order each session.
  3. Choose an answer for each question. The test advances automatically after each choice.
  4. When the 30 questions are complete you’ll see your score (scaled to 160) and a full breakdown showing your answers, the correct answers and explanations for each question.
  5. If you want to save your result to the site leaderboard, enter your name and (optionally) country and click Save Score. The server will store the top 20 scores and display it in the top 20 iq scores area.

How the test works (brief technical overview)

  • Randomized questions: Each session selects 30 questions randomly from the pool so the first question is not predictable.
  • Device memory: Completed questions are tracked in the browser localStorage to avoid re-asking the same questions to the same device if there are enough unused questions available.
  • Refresh protection: Sessions are persisted to sessionStorage so refreshing the page resumes the in-progress test instead of restarting it (prevents accidental refresh cheating).
  • Scoring: The raw correct count (0–30) is scaled to the 0–160 IQ range using the formula Math.round((correct/30) * 160).
  • Saving scores: If the user opts to save their score, it is submitted to the website server and stored in an options-based leaderboard that keeps the top 20 scores.
  • Cooldown: A permanent device-level cooldown flag is stored in localStorage after a completed run to prevent repeated immediate retakes on the same device. (This is a client-side convenience — it’s not a secure anti-cheat system.)

Score interpretation (0–160 scale)

These categories are general, educational guidance only — not clinical. They reflect broad comparisons rather than precise psychological classifications.

Range (IQ) Label What it means (short)
< 85 Below average Performance below the typical population mean. Interpret cautiously — single tests are not definitive.
85 – 109 Average Typical/average performance compared to the general population.
110 – 129 Above average / Medium-high Stronger-than-average performance; often shows good problem-solving and reasoning skills.
130 – 149 High High cognitive performance. This range is often labeled ‘gifted’ in educational contexts.
150 – 160 Very high / Exceptional Extremely high performance. Few people fall into this range.

Privacy & limitations

  • The test stores a small amount of non-personal state locally (in your browser) to avoid repeating questions and to resume an in-progress session.
  • Saved leaderboard entries contain only the name, country and score — no login is required. If you need stronger privacy controls, do not save your score.
  • This web test is for entertainment and informal assessment. It is not a clinical IQ evaluation. For a professional assessment, consult a licensed psychologist.

FAQ (quick)

Can I retake the test?
By default the device receives a permanent cooldown flag to avoid repeated immediate retakes on the same device. If you want to retake from the same device, clear your browser’s localStorage for the site (advanced users only).
Why are questions randomized?
Randomization prevents users from memorizing the order and improves fairness — each session is a fresh sample of items.
How is the leaderboard populated?
When you choose to save your score, it’s submitted to the site server and stored in the top-20 list (highest scores win; ties are ordered by time).
